Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • Identify job requirements from specifications
       
Element: Prepare inspection areas for basic penetrant testing
  • Clean inspection areas and prepare for testing using appropriate procedures and materials
  • Carry out preparation processes in accordance with the relevant procedures
  • Assess inspection areas visually and identify obvious discontinuities
  • Identify nominated test from SOPs
  • Prepare test equipment in accordance with relevant standards and/or procedures
  • Select test media and apply in accordance with workplace practices and specifications
  • Carry out penetrant test in accordance with relevant work instructions
  • Maintain penetrant testing equipment and store in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: Report the results of penetrant test(s)
  • Check and confirm basic indications and identify defects in accordance with organisational standards and/or procedures
  • Report test results including an accurate identification of location and size of discontinuities in accordance with organisational standards and/or procedures

Assessment Tasks

Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
